The second wave - a small post about life, capitalism and your dreams

I remember as a kid I loved playing with the waves.

Me and my friends would gather around and we would wait until one of us could spot 'a really big wave' approaching the shore. Then we would run towards that area and start to jump over it, dive beneath it or simply play as close as our fear could permit.

Do your remember such sweet moments from your child life ?

Almost everyone could clear the first wave without any problem.  However, most of us, quite naive or too happy to notice, didn't seem to grasp that some times waves don't come alone - they come in pairs.

And it was the second wave that was the stronger one - hidden behind the smaller one, too stealthy to notice, too close to avoid ...

I remember an image of a good friend of mine, who had just cleared that first wave, standing there and shouting to us all happy for having made it through the first, towering wave.

However, he had not noticed the second wave. As he was waving to us,  the waters were withdrawing back to the sea - an ominous signal that another huge wave was coming.

We tried to warn him but by the time he had turned his head, a huge black wall of water was coming upon him.

Poor guy. I think that he drunk a lot of water that day. I remember him coming out of the wave almost drowned, mother rushing to take him out and him crying like a baby. The result was that for that day, that game was over for all of us, too.

Moral of the story: it is the second wave that gets you.

Follow your dreams - not what other people do.

All people have dreams, all people want to travel,  to meet women or men, to make money, to live their life to the fullest and to experience this short trip we call life.

I bet you have some dreams, too.

However, when I look around me I do not see that promise coming true. At least not for the 80% of men and women that surrounds me.

Most people clear the first wave. Easily.

Ask any person around you that is in the age of 20-25 and they all are full of exuberance and happiness. Very sure that they will become kings and queens of the world. Men will tell you how many girlfriends and partying they have been through.  Women will show you their happy moments and how they are about to meet their king of their life.

Most have been through college, university and/or a first easy job. Most have had some sexual encounters and they are ready to shift gears - to more, to better, to higher.

Then when you meet the same persons around 30 or 35 you find a different landscape. Some, are good but most are not. They are caught in smashing working hours that drain all their life out. Most prepare to marry, if they are not married yet and when they get a child this ensures that their job is the only alternative for the next 20 years. Most people love their mate but some not so much. They are the ones that have married to someone without being sure enough, without having taken the right decisions. Bottom line is that most people do what other people do, without having examined what their dreams really are.

Life gets you, some ominous voices say. I disagree: it is the second wave that gets you, if and only if you are not prepared for it.

Never, ever turn your back to the sea

Prepare for that second wave, understand how capitalism works, what you will be demanded and prepare to swim cleverly. Choose your partner, don't stay with someone because 'It is time to get married'. Having children is lovely that is what we are here for, just make sure that your lifestyle, your work and your dreams are in alignment.

If you clear that second wave ... If you manage to find a job lifestyle that fulfills you and if you find a person you really like (or multiple persons, hell, how should I know your tastes :)) you will not be bothered by other waves for a looooong time.

But for that to happen, you must first know what you want. What are your dreams ?

Whatever you want you can achieve.   People that don't achieve their dreams are the ones that either didn't know what they wanted  in the first place or they did not notice the second wave coming and they were caught up in the 'washing machine'.

As you ask these questions you will find your self descending deeper and deeper into your subconscious and you can be amazed what dreams are trapped down there: it can be oceans, it can be music, it can be hugs.

Just make them happen.
