Lie Detection
Was he really with his friends, or was he ... with another woman ?? Well a way to tell is to ask him about it and then watch to see if his nose will grow a bit. But ... unless he is Italian and unless he is made from wood, do not expect this to happen any time soon. You see, people lie all the time. Some are good at it, like us now, and others are not. And there are, basically, two different approaches to lying. Either you are a natural, born lier and lies fly easily out of your mouth, like butterflies , or ... you have a really, REALLY hard time faking your answers. Most of the people fall in the second category.
Beliefs and Belief systems.
What you believe at is very important. Because beliefs act in a very deep level into your neurology. They can provoke dramatic physiological changes. This is where all modern lie detection schemes are based on.
There was an interesting experiment done looooong time ago: They went to a school and divided a class of average capability children into two separate groups. The first group was told that they were gifted, while the second one was told the opposite: They were told that they were 'not good enough'. To amplify the effect, they kept teaching them apart and made sure they heard the above phrases all year long. When, a year later, the two groups were tested, the results were amazing. The ‘gifted children’ really started performing like really gifted and the ‘not-so-gifted children’ could not keep up with their courses. Who said that experiments of psychology should always have a happy ending ??
Believing at something is a self fulfilling prophecy (SFP if you are into acronyms ;) ). If someone believes that lying is OK then no matter what happens, he will always continue to feel right to do so. That is because his beliefs are not going to give any physiological changes for you to read from. Trying to use any mambo jambo psychological pressure will just not do the trick. (like for example the classical NLP eye contact techniques). This is why most lie testing techniques are not fool proof. However .... there IS a method, my clever reader, that even the most natural lier cannot outsmart. It is a method that focuses on LOGICAL FACTS. Conundrum technique
Besides its horrible name that once made a whole class of university students put their pens down and look at the professor like he was from another planet, this lovely technique consists from the following: STEP ONE. You ask your friend a question that is based on a detail that he could not possibly know unless he was telling the truth. If, for example, he did stay all night long at the X Bar, then probably you should ask him something like: "I heard there was a big fight in that bar yesterday and the bar man got really hurt. Then the police arrived and everyone was generally REALLY upset". If he was there then he will KNOW that there was NO fight. If not ... then he is in trouble. Now, STEP TWO, shut up and watch carefully for his reactions.
If he delays to respond visually or agrees with your little fake story then the bastard IS LYING, feel free to break down the house, wash together his red jeans with his white shirts and chase his cat away. If, on the other hand, he looks at you strangely and tells you: "What are you talking about ?? I was there all night long and I didn't see any fight!". Then my friend, YOU are the psychopath and you should ask yourself why on earth did you have doubts on the first place. I hope you FEEL better after reading this. Your friend: Lion, ding, dong. p.s. For this article I would like to thank Sandy, for learning me all the above and teaching me how to hate long relationships with petite red-haired girls. I hope you always have your beer served warm and you eat your fries cold. If one really want to check some advanced techiques in lie detection a very good book is that of Simon Cruise who is a leading expert on the subject. For more information one can look Here

He just came back and he is late. He is always like that lately. You want to know where has he been but when you ask him, he always gives you the same old answer: "Oh, well I was with the guys at the HappyBrainStorm bar". Is he telling the truth ??
