Documentary 3: There is a Policeman Inside All Our Heads: He Must Be Destroyed

If you haven't seen the previous part: Part 2.

In the 60s, a radical group of psychoanalysts decided to challenge the influence of classical Freudian psychoanalysis ideas in America. They came to believe that instead of controlling the the inner hidden self did it would be better to leave  it to express itself freely.

Out of this came a political movement that wanted to create new beings free of the psychological conformity that had been implanted in people's minds by business and politics.

This documentary shows how this idea developed into American self-help movements - the irresistible rise of the expressive self that would be later known as the Generation Me.

However,  American corporations soon realized that this was an opportunity rather than a threat. They aimed to make people feel more individuals so as they could market to them products that suited their individuality. To do this they started using methods based on Freudian psychoanalysis.
