Dan Gilbert: What type of subtle, WRONG DECISIONS can influence your happiness

This video made me find out so many errors in my way of taking decisions that I almost fell off my chair.

Dan Gilbert is one of the leading experts in psychology and in this accelerating presentation he explores how a happy life can be influenced by the way someone takes decisions.

(You'd better let the video buffer after you hit play ...)

Still, not sure how this would relate to "hapiness"... but title aside it is a good video.

In summary, people fail to see the expected outcome (mathematically, not different from the mean, or arithmetic average), and instead bias their focus based on different factors. I didn't like much the economic comparisons, because as my sister would say: "economics is a social science, not an exact science", explaining why economists fail to model what people do. See the difference? The real thing is people - the flawed thing is the economic model. I loved the remark from the guy in the public.

One thing that caught my attention is the relationship between content and context - I've been thinking about that lately, did I read something about that in one of your articles?

Happiness depends on two factors: a) what you focus on and b) how pleasant is your environment

Wrong decisions can lead to an unpleasant environment i.e. unhappy life because of lack of wealth, health or love

Social science examines the interactions of many individuals. Each individual reacts to another individual based on a group of psychological and rational rules (maximisation of utilities).

You could say that psychology and logic are like quantum physics (micro) and social sciences (economy etc) is what comes when one looks the things from far away (macro): classic physics.

For the difference between context and content, I would enjoy to learn what you think.

Why don't you throw us the basic thoughts on that matter, it seems interesting. :)
